Traditional Surrogacy Procedures
Some surrogates choose traditional surrogacy (TS) because it is less medically invasive. When a women becomes a traditional surrogate mom (TS) she is not only the carry of the baby but also the egg donor (ED). Traditional surrogate moms are able to help couples save money because they artificially inseminate themselves with the intended father’s (IF) sperm or that of a sperm donor. There are different methods to insemination but NONE include sexual relations.

Most of the time the intended father (IF) will provide a sperm sample in a cup. The surrogate mom will then take the cup with a syringe of some type (needleless) and draw the specimen up into the syringe. She will then insert the syringe releasing the sperm into her own body. Some surrogates stay in a tilted laying down position for 30 minutes or more to allow the sperm to move up the fallopian tubes. Traditional surrogates (TS) keep track of their monthly cycles using basal thermometers and charting to calculate ovulation dates. Many times the use of ovulation kits is very helpful in determining the ideal insemination days when trying to conceive. Traditional surrogates (TS) remain abstinent during their cycling months when they are trying to conceive for another couple.

Traditional surrogate (TS) moms sometimes chose to do IUIs (intrauterine insemination – especially when Fresh sperm samples are not available or the intended father (IF) lives to far away. An IUI is performed by threading a very thin flexible catheter through the cervix and injecting washed sperm directly into the uterus. The whole process doesn't take very long — it usually only requires the insertion of a speculum and then the catheter, a process that maybe takes a couple of minutes) to help insure better chances of fertilizing the released egg in the surrogates body. This is also done when the couple seeking a traditional surrogate has some sort of sperm issues.

Traditional surrogacy can be a very beautiful journey. Open communication and honesty are very important during any surrogacy venture. From the beginning everyone needs to make sure they are on the same page of what the desire not only from the pregnancy but also from the relationship of the couple and surrogate before, during and after the delivery.
