Types of Surrogacy
There are two different types of Surrogate Moms:

A Gestational Surrogate Mom carries an embryo that is created in a laboratory dish and transferred into the surrogate mom’s womb by in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The embryo is created using the egg from the intended mom (IM) or that of an egg donor and the sperm from the intended father (IF) or sperm donor. A gestational surrogate is not genetically related to the baby.

A Traditional Surrogate Mom carries a baby that she has also been the egg donor for. The baby is conceived using sperm from the intended father (IF) or sperm donor and is artificially inseminated into the surrogate mom to fertilize her egg. A traditional surrogate mom is biologically related to the baby.
